Chapter 5: Sherrie

Summer and I headed for Brooklyn a week later because she wanted to check out a loft in Manhattan and she didn’t want me to take a train. She didn’t mention Lucas and I didn’t ask about him. Excitement about getting out of her parents’ home had her overjoyed and she thought of nothing else.

We stopped off at the loft. She pulled out a key and opened the door. We took the elevator up and entered the room. It was a wide open space. “What do you want with this? It’s too big. Why not get an apartment?”

Looking at me with a smile, “I can have it decorated and refurbished into whatever I want and it’s located in the heart of Manhattan. I can see my agent, go on open calls until I get my SAG card, and have parties to get to know some of the up and coming actors around town. Work as an extra or stage work and then move to Los Angeles.”

She had her life all thought out, me, I could only plan for tomorrow.

I walk around and gaze out at the skyline. Then I see a large building. “Look at that building, who does that belong to?”

“My father, but now it’s Lucas’s company.” Thoughts are running through my mind. I can’t believe he’s that rich but I should have known.

Summer was so enthralled with her place. I left her there and took the train to Brooklyn where I found a barrage of questions about my rich friend. The next question coming from my mother is, “are you getting a job.”

I did get a job working that summer as a waitress in a fancy hotel in Manhattan. It was the last night working at this restaurant because I was ready to go to college. I hadn’t heard from Lucas and I refused to ask Summer about him.

On that night when I had to take over for one of the waiters who suddenly fell sick, I walked to a table and there sat two women in their twenties dressed in expensive designer clothes and carrying posh bags, and one well-dressed man in a dark suit. They didn’t look up at me. They ordered a bottle of expensive red wine.

“Bring the best wine you have,” the young man said.

One of the girls was white and the one sitting in the booth next to the white guy is black and she says, “Oh Patrick, now you know why I love you. You give me everything I want.” And her hands goes to her neck and she’s wearing a diamond necklace. She’s stroking it and I thought I recognized the long manicured red finger nails.

“And you spare no expense.” She turns and kisses him on the lips.

I had been wondering where I heard that voice before and when she tilted her head to look at me, and acknowledge me, our eyes locked. She didn’t know me but I knew her.

Last time I saw her she had her red lips locked around Lucas’s dick that had just been inside me.
